Current members of ESAM
Dear ESAM, the Aerospace Family of Europe, dear friends and colleagues around the world,
Recently, we concluded the ECAM 2018 conference in the beautiful city of Prague. As far as I can see, it was a great success, with over 350 registrations from 54 nations. The organizing committee led by Declan Maher has done an outstanding job, ensuring a smooth running congress in a lovely venue, topped by the Gala dinner and afterparty which was indeed something else! We must of course mention our Czech local organisers of the Czech Society of Aviation Medicine and the Czech institute of Aviation medicine – thank you for your kind hospitality and support for making the congress a success!
As announced, on 22 September 2018, 11:00 am, took place the General Assembly (GA) of ESAM. There were representatives of 19 Member Societies as well as observers from China, Belarus and Canada. During the GA there were reports presented by the President, Secretary General, Chair of the Advisory Board Committee and the Treasurer.
Following the presentations mentioned above the Chair of the Nomination Committee organized the vote for the new Executive Committee (EC) members as well as for the Auditors and for the new Nomination Committee (NC).
Based on the data provided by the Treasurer 29 ESAM members were eligible, in accordance with ESAM Statues, to cast their votes for EC members, auditors and NC members. Out of the 29 eligible there were 19 member societies present and 2 others have sent proxy votes.

The Advisory Board of the European Society of Aerospace Medicine (ESAM) was asked to produce some guidance material to enable physicians, and aviation medical advisers to obtain the best advice concerning the use of both prescribed and non–prescribed (over-the-counter) medication.
The guidance material is designed to highlight basic principles and to emphasize ‘golden rules’ which are recommended to be observed.
The objective of this paper is to produce guidance for General Medical Practitioners, Consultant Specialists and Aeromedical Examiners (AMEs) who are dealing with medical problems occurring in commercial, military, civilian (private) pilots or Air Traffic Controllers and to assist them with the management of medication use. This is not for therapeutic reasons but to enhance the understanding of the potential risks to the safe operation of aviation and accidents in professional or private flying activities, which may occur with the use of medication.
